Reporting to the Supervisor overseeing construction law, here’s how you’ll make a difference to the City of Edmonton:
- Represent the City and its employees in legal proceedings before the court, tribunals, alternative dispute proceedings and other forums
- Gather facts through interviews and documents
- Research and apply the law in divergent factual situations
- Provide advice and recommendations for the conduct and resolution of disputes
- Retain and instruct outside experts in a wide variety of areas
- Negotiate and mediate resolution of complex and adversarial matters
- Take a proactive role in providing strategic recommendations to avoid risk/liability
- Research and understand the City structure, policy and procedure
Qualifications :
- Membership with the Law Society of Alberta or the ability to attain immediate membership with the Law Society of Alberta upon appointment
- At least 5 years practicing law post articles is preferred
- Significant experience in handling construction disputes is required
- Experience in civil litigation, municipal, administrative and insurance law is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with confidence under time constraints
- Excellent verbal, negotiating and written communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong legal research skills and computer literacy

Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week. Monday - Friday
Salary: $85,123 - $168,018 (Annually)
