Key activities and accountabilities in this role will include:
- Team engagement
- Managing Multi-Disciplinary Group of Solicitors, including
- Answering phones
- Making appointments
- Filing
- Incoming Mail - present to solicitor
- Collating attachments to Outgoing Mail
- Legal support to Avant Law solicitors in complex and high claims
- Preparation of chronologies; preparation of chronologies, review and collation of document summaries
- Preparation of briefs to experts and counsel
- Provide a Legal Officer support function to Avant Law including assisting to prepare legal documentation, drafting correspondence, recording of court notes, liaising with witnesses, experts, court and/or tribunal staff, and assisting with processing of Avant Law’s invoices for professional services.
- Prepare correspondence, legal documents and other documents in relation to claims against members and other requests for assistance
- Develop sound relationships with internal and external contacts, interacting with lawyers, Avant members, claims managers and medical advisers, contributing to the delivery of a comprehensive and superior service.
- Undertake legal research, summarising and communicating findings to Avant Law primarily through updating and maintaining Avant Law’s legal databases.

The ideal candidate is a highly organised person who has the below skills and experience:
- Preferably completed at least one (1) year of a law degree or equivalent
- Two (2) years’ experience working as a Legal Officer
- Advocacy experience
- Typing at a minimum of 45 wpm
- Proactive in nature
- Attention to detail
- Drive and determination
- Experience in conducting legal research
- Knowledge of health law issues
- Experience in conducting legal research
- Knowledge of health law issues
- Experience in organising and managing a file load
- Legal knowledge and research skills: Well developed understanding of legal practice and procedures. Proven ability to conduct comprehensive research.
- Communication: Expresses ideas effectively with proven excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Computer: Superior Word, Excel, Adobe PDF and Outlook skills.
- Team Work / Collaboration: Works Effectively with others, respects need and contributions of others, contributes to and accepts consensus.
- Customer Service: Excellent relationship building skills, proactive in developing relationships and understands customer requirements
Salary range: $75,000 to $85,000
